How To Clean A WigAuthor Emma Date 26th June 2010 |

How to clean a wig depends on the type of wig you have, there are 2 main types of wigs to choose from, human hair or synthetic hair. Obviously human hair wigs can be treated exactly the same as you would treat your own hair, but please be aware that you can still damage human hair wigs by for instance applying volatile substances such as bleach or peroxide. Synthetic or man made wigs should be soaked in warm water containing baking soda or mild shampoo. Ensure all areas of the hair are exposed to the cleaning agent. Long hair may require you to run your fingers through the entire length. Rinse thoroughly with clean cool water. Repeat this step but use hair conditioner as the cleaning agent. Rinse thoroughly again and allow to dry naturally. |

Fit your wig so that it is comfortable and looks straight when viewed in a mirror. Try to comb or brush the wig gently, making sure you don't tear any hair out or move the wig around your head. If you require straight or curly hair you can use hot curlers or straighteners. Now you can 'gently' brush a small amount of hair at a time back towards the face as required, This should give the wig a natural appearance. Repeat this process of curling or straightening until your achieve the look you are after. Finally when you are happy with the styling, add a little hairspray to hold your hair in your new style. Don't forget there are many accessories you can add to improve the styling, eg hair grips, clips, bobbles, bands and flowers. |
